Weapons — Attachments
A complete guide to Attachments in DayZ Weapons.
Overview
Attachments in DayZ are critical modifications that enhance a weapon’s accuracy, utility, and tactical adaptability. Mastering the attachment system allows you to convert a basic firearm into a specialized tool for sniping, close-quarters combat, or low-light operations.
How It Works
Attachments modify weapon stats such as dispersion, sway, and visibility. Most attachments are slot-based; you must have the weapon in your hands or on your back to modify it. Use the "Attachments" menu in the inventory screen to drag and drop compatible items (optics, suppressors, or lights) onto their respective slots. Some weapons, like the Winchester70, require specific mounting rails or rings before optics can be attached.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Press Tab to open your inventory while holding or carrying the weapon.
- Look for the "Attachments" section on the right side of the weapon's inventory window.
- Drag the compatible attachment (e.g., a scope or flashlight) from your inventory or ground loot onto the corresponding highlight slot.
- If the item is greyed out, verify that the attachment is compatible with your specific firearm model and that you have removed any currently equipped conflicting attachments.
- Once attached, use the T key (default) to toggle tactical lights or lasers, and right-click to aim through scopes.
Tips
- Always check the condition of your attachments; damaged suppressors will cause your shots to become significantly louder.
- Carry a designated cleaning kit, as attachments can be damaged during combat or when falling, leading to jams or inaccuracy.
- Use a Universal Light or Weapon Flashlight on your rifle to navigate dark interiors without needing a handheld glowstick.
- Press the Page Up or Page Down keys while aiming through long-range optics to adjust your zeroing for distance.
- Prefer the Hunting Scope over reflex sights for long-range rifles like the Winchester70 to maximize your engagement range.
Common Mistakes
- Trying to force an incompatible optic onto a weapon without first checking the required rail system or mounting hardware.
- Attaching a suppressor to a weapon that is already damaged, which accelerates the degradation of the barrel.
- Forgetting to toggle off tactical lasers or flashlights at night, which reveals your exact position to enemy players.
- Assuming all silencers are universal; always verify if your attachment is for 5.56mm, 7.62mm, or pistol calibers.
