Advanced — Weapon Repair
A complete guide to Weapon Repair in DayZ Advanced.
Overview
Weapon repair in DayZ is essential for maintaining accuracy, preventing firearm jams, and ensuring your equipment doesn't ruin during combat. Regular maintenance restores a weapon's condition level, preventing the "Ruined" state where the item becomes unusable and cannot be repaired.
How It Works
Firearms degrade with every shot fired, losing condition from Pristine down to Worn, Damaged, Badly Damaged, and finally Ruined. To repair them, you must use a Weapon Cleaning Kit. When the kit is in your hands, looking at a weapon in your inventory or on the ground will trigger the prompt to "Clean" the weapon, consuming a portion of the kit's durability to restore the weapon's condition.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Locate a Weapon Cleaning Kit in industrial areas, sheds, or garages.
- Place the firearm you wish to repair in your hands or on the ground.
- Place the Weapon Cleaning Kit in your hands.
- Aim your crosshair at the weapon until the "Clean" interaction prompt appears.
- Hold the primary action button (Left Mouse Click/RT/R2) to perform the cleaning animation.
- Observe the weapon's status icon; repeat the process if the condition does not jump to the desired level.
- Discard or store the kit once the weapon is "Pristine."
Tips
- Always prioritize repairing your main rifle before entering high-traffic zones like military bases.
- A weapon will jam more frequently as its condition drops below "Worn."
- If a weapon reaches the "Ruined" state, it cannot be fixed with a cleaning kit and must be replaced.
- Always check the status of your internal or external magazines, as they also degrade and can cause feeding issues.
- You can repair weapons for other players while they are holding them, provided you have the kit.
Common Mistakes
- Waiting until a weapon is "Badly Damaged" before repairing it, which increases the risk of it becoming "Ruined" during a firefight.
- Forgetting to repair the attached optic or suppressor, which have their own independent durability status.
- Trying to repair a "Ruined" weapon; once it hits this state, it is permanently broken.
- Leaving your Weapon Cleaning Kit in a stashed backpack during long patrols instead of keeping it accessible in your inventory.
