Vehicles — Spawn Locations
A complete guide to Spawn Locations in DayZ Vehicles.
Overview
Vehicles in DayZ are high-value assets that provide rapid transit and mobile storage for large groups. Locating and restoring a functional vehicle is a force multiplier for survival, but they are rare, resource-intensive, and highly visible targets for other survivors.
How It Works
Vehicles spawn across the map in a "wrecked" state, missing essential parts like batteries, spark plugs, and wheels. To make a vehicle operational, you must manually install these components and supply fuel to the tank. Once running, the engine requires a car battery or truck battery to start, and movement is controlled via the standard WASD movement keys, with the engine toggled by the ignition key.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Locate a vehicle chassis at known civilian, industrial, or military spawn points.
- Approach the engine bay to install a fully charged Car Battery or Truck Battery.
- Open the hood or engine compartment to insert a Spark Plug.
- Locate the wheels for the specific vehicle type and attach them to the hubs using the inventory UI.
- Inspect the radiator and use a Jerry Can or Water Bottle to fill it with water to prevent engine overheating.
- Open the fuel cap and pour gasoline into the tank using a Jerry Can.
- Enter the driver’s seat, hold the ignition key to start the engine, and check the dashboard for fuel and battery levels.
Tips
- Always park vehicles inside structures or dense tree lines to prevent them from being spotted from the air or high-ground vantage points.
- Keep a spare Spark Plug and Battery in your backpack; these items are frequently removed by players to "disable" vehicles they cannot steal.
- Use a Lug Wrench to quickly swap tires if a wheel is damaged during transit.
- Always fill the radiator with water; a dry radiator will destroy the engine block after only a few kilometers of driving.
- Shift into higher gears on flat terrain to save fuel, but downshift when climbing steep inclines to maintain momentum.
Common Mistakes
- Leaving the vehicle unlocked: Any player can jump in and drive away if you fail to secure the doors.
- Driving at high speeds off-road: Desync and sudden terrain clipping can cause vehicles to vault into the air, resulting in instant death or irreversible chassis damage.
- Ignoring the "Check Engine" light: Operating a vehicle with a damaged engine leads to smoke and eventual permanent failure.
- Leaving loot inside: Vehicles are priority targets for raiders; never store high-tier gear in a vehicle that is not behind a locked base gate.
