Medical — Morphine
A complete guide to Morphine in DayZ Medical.
Overview
Morphine is a medical auto-injector used exclusively to instantly remove the "Broken Leg" status effect. It is a critical survival tool that allows a player to stand and walk after suffering a fracture, preventing them from being forced to crawl to safety.
How It Works
When a player sustains a broken leg, the game restricts movement to a crawl and prevents sprinting or vaulting. Morphine functions as an immediate, temporary fix for the "Broken Leg" icon. By equipping the item to your hands and holding the left mouse button, you inject the drug, which removes the movement restriction for a limited duration, allowing the player to stand and move normally while the fracture continues to heal in the background.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Equip the Morphine auto-injector into your hands from your inventory or hotbar.
- Ensure you are not currently sprinting or performing other restrictive animations.
- Aim at your own body (or observe the prompt) and hold the left mouse button to initiate the injection.
- Wait for the injection animation to complete fully.
- Once the "Broken Leg" icon disappears or the status bar updates, stand up using the default crouch/stand toggle key.
Tips
- Morphine does not heal the underlying fracture; it only masks the mobility penalty, so avoid sprinting until the fracture heals completely to prevent re-breaking.
- Always keep one Morphine injector in your shirt or pants quick-slot for emergencies during combat or high-altitude traversal.
- You can apply Morphine to other players by approaching them and holding the left mouse button while looking at them.
- If you have a Splint Applied, you do not need Morphine; the Splint provides the same mobility benefit and is craftable.
- Morphine injectors are commonly found in hospitals, medical tents, and military-grade medkits.
Common Mistakes
- Thinking Morphine cures the fracture instantly; the underlying damage still exists, and you will become immobile again once the effect wears off if the bone has not healed.
- Ignoring the sound cues of a fall; jumping from heights over 3-4 meters will trigger a fracture regardless of your health status.
- Carrying multiple auto-injectors in a backpack rather than on your person, making them inaccessible during a firefight.
- Failing to use a Splint; prioritize crafting a Splint from rags and sticks to save your Morphine for moments when you lack building materials.
