Medical — IV Bags
A complete guide to IV Bags in DayZ Medical.
Overview
IV bags are essential life-saving tools used to rapidly restore blood volume or provide direct saline hydration to a survivor. Mastering their use is critical for recovering from severe blood loss after combat or reversing the effects of shock and dehydration.
How It Works
IV bags function by injecting their contents directly into the player's circulatory system, bypassing the digestive tract. You must have a Startkitiv (IV Start Kit) attached to a liquid source—either a Bloodbagempty filled with your own blood or a Salinebag—to initiate the transfusion. The process requires a steady player, as any movement or damage will cancel the infusion and ruin the equipment.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Locate a Startkitiv and a liquid source (Salinebag or a filled Bloodbagempty).
- Combine the Startkitiv with the liquid source in your inventory to create a "Saline/Blood IV Kit."
- Place the IV Kit in your hands.
- If transfusing someone else, approach them and hold the Left Mouse Button (or equivalent action key) to perform the "Start IV" action.
- If using it on yourself, select the item in your hands and hold the action key to begin the self-infusion.
- Remain stationary for the duration of the progress bar; moving or taking damage will interrupt the process and cause the item to be dropped or destroyed.
- Wait until the notification indicates the infusion is complete before moving or putting the kit away.
Tips
- Always check the blood type of the recipient using a Bloodtestkit before using a Bloodbag to avoid hemolytic transfusion reactions.
- Salinebags are universal; they do not require blood typing and are safer for emergency field use.
- Keep your IV kit stored in a Protective Case or inside a backpack to prevent it from becoming ruined during firefights.
- You can fill a Bloodbagempty by drawing your own blood if you are healthy, but doing so will temporarily reduce your own blood levels.
- Transfusions are most effective when you are sitting or prone, as it lowers the risk of being interrupted by environmental hazards.
Common Mistakes
- Using a non-matching blood type during a blood transfusion, which results in rapid health decay and death.
- Attempting to perform an IV infusion while under fire, which wastes a rare resource when the action is inevitably canceled.
- Forgetting to combine the Startkitiv with the bag before trying to use it, leading to wasted time in high-stress situations.
- Using a damaged IV kit, which has a higher chance of failing or causing infection.
