Overview

A Saline Bag is a medical utility used to rapidly replenish a survivor's blood volume and restore hydration levels. It is an essential tool for recovering from significant blood loss without the risk of blood-type incompatibility inherent to blood transfusions.

How It Works

The Saline Bag operates by increasing the recipient's blood volume by 500ml over a period of approximately 30 seconds. To function, the Saline Bag must be combined with an IV Start Kit to create a "Saline Bag IV." Once prepared, the item is held in your hands and applied to either yourself or another player. The infusion process requires the recipient to remain stationary; any movement will cancel the action.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Locate a Saline Bag and an IV Start Kit.
  2. Open your inventory, drag the IV Start Kit onto the Saline Bag, and select "Combine" to craft the Saline Bag IV.
  3. Equip the Saline Bag IV in your hands.
  4. If self-administering, hold the left mouse button (or your assigned fire/action button) until the action bar completes.
  5. If administering to another player, aim at them and hold the action button until the animation finishes.
  6. Ensure the recipient does not move or vault during the infusion period to avoid canceling the process.

Tips

  • Always keep an IV Start Kit in your inventory; they are smaller and easier to find than the bags themselves.
  • Saline infusions significantly boost your hydration status, making them an excellent emergency fix for severe dehydration.
  • Unlike blood bags, Saline Bags do not require a Blood Test Kit, as they are universal and carry no risk of hemolytic reaction.
  • You can craft a Saline Bag IV in advance to save precious seconds during a combat situation.
  • The infusion process takes time; find hard cover before beginning to ensure you aren't interrupted by hostiles.

Common Mistakes

  • Attempting to use a Saline Bag without combining it with an IV Start Kit first, which does nothing.
  • Applying a Saline Bag while moving; if you walk, run, or vault, the infusion will cancel and waste the item.
  • Assuming Saline restores health; it only restores blood volume, meaning you still need food and water for full health regeneration.
  • Carrying multiple Saline Bags without an IV kit, rendering them useless in an emergency.
