Overview

The Flag Pole is the primary tool for territorial persistence in DayZ. It resets the lifetime of all base building parts and items within a 60-meter radius, preventing your structures from despawning due to inactivity.

How It Works

When a flag is fully raised, it emits a signal that refreshes the persistence timer of all objects within its radius. The pole has a built-in mechanism that slowly lowers the flag over 45 days. You must manually interact with the winch to raise the flag back to the top, which resets the lifetime of everything nearby. If the flag reaches the bottom, the persistence timer expires, and your base will begin to despawn during server restarts.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Craft a Flag Pole Kit by combining 3 Wooden Logs with 1 Rope.
  2. Place the kit in your desired location and build the foundation using 32 Stones.
  3. Attach 3 Wooden Logs to the foundation to create the base structure.
  4. Attach 30 Metal Nails and 1 Wooden Log to the structure to build the first vertical section.
  5. Attach 30 Metal Nails and 1 Wooden Log to build the second vertical section.
  6. Attach 30 Metal Nails and 1 Wooden Log to build the third vertical section.
  7. Attach the Flag of your choice to the attachment slot on the pole.
  8. Use the winch handle at the base to crank the flag to the top position.

Tips

  • A fully raised flag keeps all base items refreshed for 45 days of real-time.
  • You can check the "health" of your base persistence by looking at the height of the flag on the pole.
  • The 60-meter radius is calculated from the center of the pole; check your base perimeter to ensure all walls fall within this zone.
  • Raising the flag does not repair damaged walls; it only prevents them from despawning.
  • If you lose your flag, simply attach a new one to the pole to resume the persistence timer.

Common Mistakes

  • Building the flag pole too close to the edge of your base, leaving outer walls outside the 60-meter persistence zone.
  • Forgetting to crank the winch after attaching a new flag, which fails to trigger the persistence refresh.
  • Assuming the flag pole prevents players from raiding; it is purely a persistence tool and offers no structural security.
  • Placing the flag pole in an area with uneven terrain that prevents the kit from deploying.
