DayZ Loot Economy Guide
Complete guide to the DayZ loot economy in types.xml — type definitions, spawn settings, quantity, and spawn priority explained with a full example.
Overview
The DayZ loot economy is controlled by types.xml in your server's mission folder. Each item is defined inside a <type> block, with settings that control how many spawn, how long they last, and how often they respawn.
Type Definition
Every item entry starts with a <type> tag. The name attribute must match the exact in-game classname.
<type name="ACOGOptic">
...
</type>
This is the item/class name — it must match the exact in-game classname.
Spawn Settings
<nominal> → Target spawn amount
Approximate number of this item on the map.
<nominal>20</nominal>
<lifetime> → Despawn timer
How long the item lasts (in seconds). Applies if the item is untouched / unruined.
<lifetime>7200</lifetime>
<restock> → Respawn delay
Time (seconds) before the item begins respawning. Starts once the count drops below minimum.
<restock>1800</restock>
<min> → Minimum threshold
If the item count drops below this, the server spawns items until nominal is reached.
<min>15</min>
Quantity Settings
Used for items with sub-quantity — water, ammo, fuel, etc.
<quantmin> → Minimum subquantity
-1= disabled0–100= percentage
<quantmin>-1</quantmin>
<quantmax> → Maximum subquantity
Sets the upper limit for subquantity.
<quantmax>-1</quantmax>
Spawn Priority
<cost> → Spawn priority weight
- Lower cost = spawns more often
- Higher cost = spawns less often
<cost>100</cost>

This is decent info, although a bit more about the cost setting would be interesting
Of course, the topic "Loot Economy Guide" should also include further file types like the mapgroupproto.xml and mapgrouppos.xml.
