Temperature & Hypothermia Guide
Stay warm or die - managing body temperature in DayZ
Temperature Management
DayZ’s temperature system can kill you faster than zombies. Staying warm is critical to survival.
Temperature Indicators
- White → Normal / Comfortable
- Light Blue → Getting cold
- Dark Blue → ⚠️ Hypothermia risk
- Orange → Getting hot
- Red → ⚠️ Hyperthermia risk
💡 Always aim to stay in the white.
What Makes You Cold
- Being wet (rain, swimming)
- Night time
- Wind exposure
- Poor or low insulation clothing
- Standing still too long
How to Warm Up
- Build a fire → Fireplace, stone oven, or indoors
- Wring out clothes → Reduces wetness
- Find shelter → Blocks wind and rain
- Use a Heat Pack
- Run or move → Builds body heat
💡 Movement + dry clothes = fastest recovery.
Clothing Insulation
Check your gear’s heat insulation stat:
- Low → Basic jackets, pants
- Medium → Hunting gear, Gorka
- High → Down jackets, NBC suit
⚠️ Better insulation = longer survival in harsh weather.
Building a Fire
-
Combine Rags/Paper + Firewood or Sticks → Fireplace
-
Light using:
- Matches
- Hand Drill Kit
- Road Flare
🔥 Fires dry your clothes and restore body temperature fast.
Hypothermia Effects
- Shivering (screen shake)
- Gradual health loss
- Reduced stamina
- Eventual death if untreated
⚠️ Ignore the cold too long and it will kill you.
💀 Pro Tip: Always carry dry rags, matches, and a knife — that combo can save your life in freezing conditions.
