Survival Tips for New Players

Welcome to DayZ! This guide will help you survive your first encounters and understand the basics.

First 10 Minutes

Priority Order:

1. Find a melee weapon (knife, axe, crowbar)
2. Get water (fountain or bottle)
3. Find food (fruits, canned goods)
4. Find warmer clothes (coast = cold)

Essential Survival Rules

1. Stay Hydrated and Fed

• Your character needs constant food and water
• Look for apple trees and water pumps
• Carry at least one water bottle
• Hunt animals for sustainable food

2. Avoid Major Cities at First

• High player traffic = high danger
• Better loot isn’t worth dying for
• Learn the game in quiet areas first

3. Trust No One

• Most players will kill on sight
• Be cautious even with friendly players
• Always have an escape plan

4. Manage Your Temperature

• Wet + Cold = Death
• Always carry matches or a lighter
• Build fires to warm up & dry clothes
• Wear proper clothing

Zombie Combat Tips

• Crouch to move quietly
• Fight one at a time
• Use heavy attacks (don’t spam)
• Aim for headshots
• Run if overwhelmed

1. Spawn → Get weapon, food, water
